These are skincare mistakes that each and every one of us make that can lead to more acne and sensitizing the skin also aging the skin.
1. Not reapplying sunscreen- sunscreen is a very important of a skincare routine. Sun can not promote pre mature aging it can also worsen pre existing acne and make the skin more ting sensitive.
2. Not patch testing skincare products- i have personally made this mistake and had a really bad reaction to an acne medication which was given by my dermatologist. This is really important to figure of if your skin is sensitive or allergic to certain product or ingredient. You take a dot of product and apply it to the back of your ear and leave it for 48 hours.
3. Over cleansing skin- you should never wash your face more than 2 to maximum 3 times a day and for 1 to maximum 2 minutes. This can strip your skin of all its natural oils and damage its barrier. This can worsen pre existing acne and dry out the skin.
4. Physically abusing the skin- rubbing the skin with a towel, using makeup wipes, using peeling pads and just rubbing your skin can irritate the skin and make it sensitive. Please be gentle with your skin your ski will thank you later. I have oily and acne prone skin, i stopped using a towel to dry my face and my acne has reduced a lot.
5. Not washing off micellar water- yes micellar waters are really mild but still it’s a surfactant it not meant to be left on the face. This can damage your skin’s moisture barrier.
6. Treating all areas of the skin equally- it all depends on what your skin requires at that time. Like for me i have combination skin, I use a clay mask on my forehead, nose and chin, and a moisturizing mask on my cheeks. You need to understand your skin requirements and use products accordingly.
7. Using to many acne products- some people use a full range of acne products, this can be really harsh on the skin. This can disrupt the moisture barrier, sensitize, and cause more acne. You need to maintain a balance.
8. Not moisturizing oily skin- I thought I had really oily skin, I didn’t use a moisturizer, this made my skin even more oiler, when I started using one my skin didn’t produce as much oil as before, i didn’t have a lot of acne. I realized my skin i not oily, it’s just dehydrated. So I recommend you to start with a light gel moisturizer.Check out my skincare 101 moisturizers blog for product recommendations click here
9. Not changing your pillowcase- this just completely changed my skin. I change my pillowcase after every 2 days, my acne just vanished away. I still get acne here and there but not like before.
10. Not removing makeup completely- most people don’t use a double cleansing method to remove their makeup and sunscreen, this residue left can clog pores and result in more acne. This is just not healthy for your skin and result in dehydrated skin. Check out my skincare 101-cleansers blog to learn more about double cleansing, click here
