What is a serum?
A serum is a very concentrated gel like treatment for your skin, their molecules are very small so they are easily able to penetrate deep into the skin and absorb quickly. The ingredients in a serum can benefit deeper within the skin rather than the top layer like a moisturizer. Serums target specific skin concerns.
When should you use a serum?
It completely depends on your skin and preference. Serums can be used both day and night. People with oily skin can skip a moisturizer in the morning if your skin feels too oily or heavy. Do read the box first.
Why should you use a serum?
Serums are my personal favorite to use in a skin care. Serums can help with particular skin concerns when other products can’t. There are many products to choose from. They really do make visible difference to your skin. There is really a serum for everyone.
Who can use a serum?
Everyone can use a serum and benefit from it. It really depends on what your skin needs. If you have acne, dark spots, if you want to improve the texture of your skin, hydrate it, everything, a serum can help your skin more deeply than any other product.
Product recommendations
What is an essence?
An essence is a light, watery product that may contain fermented ingredients to help your speed up your skin’s cell turnover. They are usually anti aging and skin brightening products. It is typically used before a serum and after toner.
When do you use an essence?
This totally depends on your skin and the type of product you are using. Traditional essences are very watery and light weight and absorb into the skin very quickly. If you use thicker essences that are like serums and your skin feels very heavy, oily or you break out then you should alternate between the two, or you can skip the serum in the morning if you have oily skin.
Why do you use an essence?
They target everything from anti aging to dark spots, they are really a good product to use every day and improve the overall look of the skin. People with oily skin will find that it adds a glow and refreshes the skin whereas people with dry skin will find that it adds an extra boost of hydration to the skin.
Do you need to use both?
Yes, maybe, it totally depends from person to person and what your skin needs. Essences is a daily use product and target things that are always a concern for my skin like improving the texture of my skin etc. A serum really depends on what your skin’s specific needs are for that day. If you don’t need both or if you are younger and don’t need anti aging then stick to a serum.
